Jacqui Broderick is magazine editor and the published author of numerous magazine and newspaper features, three novels and a biography. She is the editor of ‘Ireland’s Horse and Pony Magazine’ and ‘Ireland’s Pets Magazine’, both 64 page monthly, glossy magazines. She writes a large number of features for both magazines each month. Both magazines have web sites and are now available as online versions.
Jacqui was born in Derbyshire. After completing her education she had a series of jobs, the main attraction for any position being the amount of time available during working hours for her to be able to write stories. She married in 1991 and had three children. In 1997 the family moved to Connemara in Ireland, where shortly afterwards she founded
‘Galway Life Magazine’. Through the magazine Jacqui met ex-jockey Shane Broderick, (no relation) who is paralysed from the neck down following a racing accident. In 1999 she approached Wolfhound Press in Dublin about writing Shane’s biography.
‘The Shane Broderick Story’ was published at the end of 1999.
Jacqui’s first novel, ‘Trainers’, was published by Poolbeg Press in 2003. ‘Trainers’was followed by ‘Winners’ (2005)and ‘Millionaires are a girl’s best friend’ (2007)To publicise her novels Jacqui has appeared on television on numerous occasions and also done radio interviews, speaking engagements and conducted writing classes. She has been the subject of many national and international newspaper and magazine articles, including the Oprah Magazine, published in America.
Jacqui began writing articles and short stories for ‘Ireland’s Horse and Pony Magazine’ in 2006 and a year later became editor. In the spring of 2010 she also became editor of a new magazine, ‘Ireland’s Pets Magazine’. She has also had articles published in
Ireland’s Independent and Ireland on Sunday (now the Irish Sunday Mail).
Jacqui has three children, Kelly (18), James (16) and India (13), who are English but Irish speaking schools. While she is working on a book the children are known as Shut Up,
Go Away and Tell Me Later. Jacqui is now divorced and divides her time between Connemara and Cornwall where her boyfriend lives The family have a menagerie of animals including horses, dogs, and cats, but will often have an orphan lamb or calf to care for. Jacqui’s Grandfather, Arthur Lock, was also a writer and had a number of history books published.
Jacqui has a web site which gives details of her books and a daily blog about her life as the mother of three teenage children, her complete inability to cook and how she has found love on an internet dating site.
